| With the scores level at 2.5 each Martin delivered mate against Jim. So it is looking increasingly challenging for the C's to retain their title. Howard 'won' the exchange but found his position very difficult as a result. Graham in his first competitive match of the season lost but Harvey won. Prakash agreed a draw and Alex won eventually reducing his opponent to a king and nothing else before he gave up. (AD) Horfield C were overwhelmed by South Bristol A on Thursday. They are a very strong side having recruited well in the summer. It was a pleasure to see Bob Radford more relaxed about chess than is his custom. They will be a tough proposition in the Minor knockout too, that is for sure. For the record Kevin managed a draw against George Crockart and Roy too managed a draw. But the rest of us were well done over. We are really going to have to get to winning ways if the Second Division Title is to be retained!! (AD) Both subs on the bottom boards acquitted themselves well. Harvey stayed focussed to win a fluctuating game, while I went into a static and inferior set-up and spent the evening watching it deteriorate. In retrospect it may be that the top board draws were agreed too early. (HKM) |
