CONSTITUTION OF HORFIELD & REDLAND CHESS CLUB

1. The club shall be called Horfield and Redland Chess Club (the club having been in the former district of Bristol for the first 35 years of its existence).

2. The purpose of the club is to promote chess and to provide opportunities for competition play.

3. Membership is open to all, upon payment of the appropriate current subscription.

4. The club is managed by its officers, who are elected at the AGM on the first Tuesday of September . The officers are :-

(a) chairman (b) secretary (c) treasurer (d) team captains.

5. The officers' responsibilities are :-

Chairman : to chair any committee or general meeting of the club. To take overall responsibility for the club's equipment, trophies, and library.

Secretary : to deal with all club correspondence, conveying appropriate information to the membership and other officers. To keep the minutes of the club AGM. To maintain the club noticeboard, together with adequate supplies of stationery, tea, instant coffee, and sugar.

Treasurer : with the assistance of team captains to collect all membership subscriptions. To pay all the club's dues, including appropriate insurance. To produce an audited annual statement of the club's finances.

Team captains : to arrange teams, and (within reason) any necessary transportation, in accordance with the programme of fixtures. To deal with all match formalities including (for home matches) the provision of milk, and the dispatch of results to the league match secretary. To assist the treasurer with the collection of subscriptions.

6. Any club meeting requires the presence of at least seven paid-up members to be quorate. Additions or amendments to the club's constitution require the support of at least two thirds of those present (and eligible to vote). New motions for the AGM must be submitted to the club secretary more than two weeks before the meeting so that he is able to inform the membership.

7. In the event of the club being wound up, after the payment of all outstanding dues the club's remaining assets shall be divided equitably among the members.
