| HORFIELD & REDLAND CHESS CLUB AGM2 September 2008Draft Minutes Present: Alex Dunn, John Richards, Mike Levene, Martin Davies, Andy Russell, Steve Dilleigh, David Reed, Dave Edmonds, Neil Holland (prospective member). Apologies for absence: Howard Millbank, Graham Strickland, Thomas Weiss, Roger Pearce, Chris Jones, Rob Sage, Dan German, Mike Gladstone. 1. Chairman's Opening Remarks Alex Dunn opened the meeting by saying that last season had been possibly the most successful in the club's history. We had won both the KO and the Minor KO; the B team had won Division 2, and the new D team had won Division 5. In addition, Steve Dilleigh was the Bristol League Champion and had also qualified for the British Championship where he had scored 50%. 2. Minutes of last AGM The minutes were read and agreed as a true record. 3. Secretary's Report Alex read out Howard's report in his absence. Martin Davies pointed out that he had been joint Bristol Champion in the mid-eighties. 4. Treasurer's Report Alex read out Howard's report in his absence. Howard had recommended an increase in subscriptions from £45 to £54, and £30 to £36 (concessions). Alex proposed a larger increase, to £60 and £40, respectively, and this was carried. There was a discussion on the cost of petrol, and the suggestion was made that passengers should pay drivers £2 per match. It was decided not to make a firm rule, but the Secretary would be asked to send an email to members stressing the importance of sharing costs. It was the responsibility of team captains to make sure the voluntary arrangements worked. 5. D Team Report Dave Edmonds said he was a new member last year. The D team was entered, but he had had to arrange all the fixtures. After a shaky start, when they lost, the team had been unbeaten and topped the table with several 4-0 victories. He wished to thank all those who had turned out. 6. C Team Report Alex Dunn said the C's had made a very bad start in Division 2 after being promoted. Colin Watson had played well, until he dropped out. John Richards started playing for us, and results improved. By the last match, if we had won we would have been promoted! 7. B Team Report Mike Levene said Prakash had done an excellent job of leading the team to the championship and promotion to Division 1, with one match to spare. Prakash negotiated some tricky moments. Kevin Thomas had played strongly, and done a lot of driving! 8. A Team Report Martin Davies said the A's had finished third. It had been difficult to field a regular team. Igor Nor had been a useful recruit, but had now returned to Israel. The KO Final against Clifton was the highlight. We were heavily outgraded against the league champions, but John and Phil both won to secure the cup. Dave Edmonds pointed out John Richards' unbeaten record last season: played 19, won 13, drew 6. 9. Election of Officers The meeting expressed itself happy with the following, subject to agreement from those absent (in italics):
10. Objectives The Chairman proposed the following objectives for the season: A team to win the League; B and C teams to stay up; D team to win Division 4; and win both cups! We would also try and keep the club open every Tuesday night. The meeting was in agreement! John Richards 15/09/08 |
